22kW7kW or 22kW? Most people don't need 22

22kW is three times faster, which sounds great. But home charging competes with how long you're parked — and that's usually a long time.

3.5kW(16A 單相) 約 10.3 小時 約 17 小時

The most common question we get: "is there a faster one?"

There is. Above 7kW sit 11kW and 22kW (three-phase). But before answering "do I want it", work out how fast you actually need to be.

Work backwards from how long you're parked

Home charging and public rapid charging are opposites. At a public charger you're waiting, so every minute counts. At home you're asleep, so all that matters is being full by morning.

For a car with a 60kWh battery:

Power 20% → 80% (about 36 kWh) Full 60 kWh
3.5kW (16A single-phase) ~10.3 hours ~17 hours
7kW (32A single-phase) ~5.1 hours ~8.6 hours
22kW (three-phase) ~1.6 hours ~2.7 hours

Here's the point: you're normally parked overnight for 10 to 12 hours. In that window 7kW delivers roughly 70–84 kWh — more than most cars' entire battery.

So for the vast majority of home users, 7kW already means "full every morning, guaranteed". 22kW changes that to "full every morning, but finished sooner" — and you were asleep for the difference.

When is 22kW genuinely worth it?

Four cases:

One bay, two EVs. Both cars sharing the same supply doubles the demand, and 22kW starts to earn its keep.

You go back out during the day. If you run a business, do deliveries or school runs, and you're home for an hour at midday before heading out again — that hour gives you about 7 kWh at 7kW, versus 22 kWh at 22kW.

Your car can't take it anyway (check this first). Note carefully: the car's on-board charger is the ceiling. Plenty of EVs cap AC charging at 7kW or 11kW, and will draw only that much no matter what you install. Check your car's AC limit before buying — this one step can save you thousands.

You're upgrading to three-phase regardless. If the house needs three-phase for other reasons anyway, the marginal cost of going to 22kW at the same time is much lower.

What three-phase actually costs

22kW requires a three-phase supply. If your home or bay is single-phase today, you'll need to:

  • Apply to CLP or HK Electric for three-phase
  • Possibly replace the supply cable and meter box
  • Submit a load calculation from a registered electrical contractor

This isn't paying a bit more for a better unit — it's a separate project with its own timeline and cost.

In one line

Check your car's AC limit, then count the hours you're parked. Those two numbers usually answer it, and the answer is usually 7kW.

If you still want 22kW after doing the maths, we'll fit it — we'd just rather you chose it from the numbers than from the bigger figure.

A bay with its own meter means a CLP application the owner has to submit personally — we can't press the button for you. This lays out the three steps: which form gets stamped by management, exactly what to put in the contractor fields, and what to send us once the deposit notice arrives.
