露天車位・加裝防水保護箱Open bay, charger in a weatherproof box

車位完全露天,全日曬正西太陽,夏天機身滾燙。加一個防水保護箱,同時解決日曬、暴雨同鄰居借電三件事。A completely open bay facing the afternoon sun — by summer the body was too hot to touch. One weatherproof box solved the sun, the rainstorms and the neighbour borrowing power.

現場情況

西貢村屋,車位在屋側,完全露天:無簷篷、無遮擋,正西向,下午三點之後太陽直射充電樁機面。

機本身是 IP65,防水防塵沒有問題。真正的問題是溫度其他人

最棘手的地方

一、夏天降流。

充電樁有溫度保護,機身過熱會自動降低輸出電流保護自己。這是好事,但在正西曬的露天車位,夏天下午開始充電,實際輸出可能由 32A 跌到 20A 出頭。車主感覺就是「部機愈嚟愈慢」,以為壞了,其實只是太熱。

二、鄰居。

村屋車位沒有閘,誰都行得到。業主之前發現有人插自己部機充電。

我們點做

1. 先確認保護箱不會令情況更差

這一點必須講清楚:一個密封的鐵箱裝住充電樁,如果無散熱設計,只會更熱。我們用的保護箱側面設散熱柵,箱體與機身之間留有風道,是為充電樁而設,不是普通電錶箱。

2. 落機、走線、上箱

充電樁先按正常做法上牆並完成接駁測試,之後才裝保護箱。次序不能倒轉 —— 測試要在機身露出來時做。

3. 密碼鎖

保護箱門設密碼鎖,只有業主知道密碼。充電線收在箱內,不用時鎖上。

結果

夏天下午的輸出穩定在 32A,不再降流。

機面不再被太陽直射,箱內溫度比之前機身外殼低一大截。而且沒有人再借到電。

這個案例適合誰參考

如果你的車位完全露天、沒有簷篷,或者車位在公眾可以行到的地方,值得考慮加一個保護箱。

相反,如果車位在室內停車場或有簷篷遮住,就不需要,IP65 本身已經足夠。傳一張車位的相片,我們可以直接說需不需要。

The site

A village house in Sai Kung with the bay at the side of the building and nothing over it — no canopy, no shade, facing due west. From three in the afternoon the sun is straight on the charger's face.

The unit itself is IP65, so water and dust were never the issue. The issues were heat and other people.

The hard part

One: summer throttling.

The charger has thermal protection — when the body gets too hot it drops its output current to protect itself. That's the right behaviour, but on a west-facing open bay, a charge started on a summer afternoon could fall from 32A to the low twenties. To the owner that reads as "it's getting slower", and it feels like a fault. It isn't. It's just hot.

Two: the neighbours.

A village-house bay has no gate. Anyone can walk up to it, and the owner had already found someone plugged into his unit.

What we did

1. First, check the box wouldn't make it worse

This matters: a sealed metal box around a charger, with no thought given to airflow, just makes it hotter. The enclosure we use has vents down the side and an air gap between the box and the charger body. It's made for chargers, not a generic meter cabinet.

2. Mount, wire, then box

The charger goes on the wall and gets fully connected and tested first; the enclosure goes on afterwards. That order can't be reversed — the testing has to happen with the unit exposed.

3. Combination lock

The door takes a combination the owner sets. The cable lives inside and gets locked away when it's not in use.

The result

Steady 32A through a summer afternoon, no more throttling.

Nothing hits the face of the unit directly any more, and the temperature inside the box sits well below what the bare casing used to reach. Nobody else has borrowed a charge since.

Who this case is for

If your bay is fully open with no canopy, or it sits somewhere the public can walk up to, an enclosure is worth costing in.

If the bay is in an indoor carpark or under cover, it isn't — IP65 on its own is already enough. Send a photo of the bay and we'll tell you straight which one you are.
